The life of a teacher experience has been rewarding. It gave me an insight into what it would be like to be a teacher. Taking over the classroom for a day taught me how to understand the classroom dynamics. I did the class register for the morning period which required me to know the names of 43 learners. I have gotten to know every learner in my class and their names. These small details are crucial as it reflects the dedication the educator has for the class. The next task of the day was to teach English First additional Language. The learners were all excited as they enjoy doing English. We mostly did revision covering the content needed for the examination. I felt that covering the work for the examination will give the learners more time to prepare for the examinations. The learners asked important questions regarding the content that they did not understand which I assisted them with. As the day progressed the work got easier to teach.

The learners were well mannered and behaved, they paid attention to what was being taught and they gave valuable input into the lesson. We had group discussions for all the subjects. Group discussions got the class interacting with me and with each other. It allowed the learners to share their thoughts and ideas as whole class and they can educate each other and assist each other in understanding the content that I have taught them. We had our breaks which was 20 minutes long. My mentor did break duty in the second break of the day. I had to do break duty in the second break.

The learners were all behaving in their breaks they mostly talked to each other and just walk around the school since ball games and play fighting was prohibited at the school. I then did line duty after break making sure the learners were mannered and behaving in the lines before we went back to class. The last hour of the day the learners were allowed to revise the day’s work on their own as the content was part of their examination revision. The end of the day the learners were ready to go home and we did our prayers and I dismissed the learners.

Overall the experience has been valuable and important to me. It taught me classroom management and all the key features that a 21st century educator should have.
