The micro teaching experience was challenging due to the content that I needed to teach. The subject that I chose was English First additional Language and the concept was doing a comprehension. The technology features made the lesson difficult as it requires me to teach without a white board. The learners found the content fun and enjoyable has they could relate to the topic. I initially did struggle to set up the lesson because of the format of my PowerPoint.
My lesson had been designed to be taught online and face to face. The learners found the slides easy to understand and most of the learners are visual based learners. The teaching strategies needed to be adjusted accordingly. I taught the lesson using direct instruction which meant that the learners would only be taught half of the content. When I started the micro teaching lesson I struggled to upload my PowerPoint on VC learn this affected my time that I have left to complete the lesson.
The lesson ran smoothly after I uploaded my PowerPoint successfully. I needed to start the lesson as soon as I could. The learners answered my scaffolding questions based off of the comprehension text. This was to build on the learners scaffolding and knowledge.
After I have done the questions in the introduction phase we then read the comprehension as a class. The learners could not see the comprehension clearly this affecting their reading. The lesson however ended off well as we did a class discussion based off of the comprehension text. The learners were engaging in the text and found the text interesting.
Overall the micro teaching experience has been very informative and it has taught me about classroom management as well as how to design online lesson planning.
As a teacher I need to learn how to create lessons for face to face as well as online and build on my classroom management skills.
